General Directions

The Helmholtz Institute Erlangen-Nürnberg is located on three sites: In Nürnberg „Auf AEG“ with the department "Dynamics of Complex Fluids and Interfaces". The departments of Prof. Wasserscheid "Chemical Hydrogen Storage", Prof. Mayrhofer "Electrocatalysis" and Prof. Thiele "Electrocatalytic Interface Engineering" are located in Erlangen, Egerlandstraße 3, directly on the campus of the Technical Faculty (Technische Fakultät) on the southern site of the FAU. Prof. Brabec's department is located at Immerwahrstraße 2 in Erlangen.

By plane

The closest Airport is the Albrecht Dürer Airport Nürnberg (NUE). A comfortable connection by train makes travelling via Frankfurt Airport (FRA) a viable option. A third option is to fly to Munich Airport (MUC) and then take a bus or train to Nürnberg/Erlangen (ca. 3 h).

By train

In Nürnberg and Erlangen trainlines of ICE (Intercity-Express), IC (InterCity) and RE (Regional-Express), RB (Regionalbahn) make stops. You can find a connection at reiseauskunft.bahn.de.

By car

The region can be reached from the direction of Berlin or Munich via Autobahn A9, from Stuttgart via A6 and from Frankfurt via A3.

The online services of Verkehrsgroßraum Nürnberg (VGN) offer exact timetables and connections. You usually can buy your ticket from the bus driver or at the vending machines at larger stations (possibility to pay with credit card is not always given).
