Innovation Award for Peter Holzapfel
Peter Holzapfel from the Department of Electrocatalytic Interface Engineering won the Innovation Award of the German Hydrogen and Fuel Cell Association for his Master Thesis, which was supervised by Prof. Dr. Simon Thiele.
In his thesis Peter worked on the fabrication of Membrane-Electrode-Assemblies (MEAs) for PEM Water Electrolysis. He investigated molybdenumsulfide-based cathodes and successfully transferred the Direct-Membrane-Deposition (DMD) process from PEM Fuel Cells to PEM Water Electrolysis MEA fabrication. By fabricating of DMD-MEAs with molybdenumsulfide based cathodes, Peter reached current densities of up to 3000 mA cm-2 for MEAs using a noble metal free electrode.
