Electrochemical energy converters such as polymer electrolyte membrane fuel cells and water electrolysers require a selection of chemically and (micro)structurally optimized materials for high performance and long term stable devices. With a focus on confocal Raman microscopy, my research interest covers chemical characterization as well as high-resolution (3D) imaging of e.g. polymer electrolyte membranes in order to evaluate degradation modes and options to mitigate degradation.
