The commercial implementation of proton exchange membrane water electrolyzers (PEMWE) is hampered, among other factors, by the high loadings required of the increasingly scarce platinum group metals to effectively catalyze the sluggish oxygen evolution reaction (OER).
My research at the HI ERN, framed within the DFG SPP 2080 DynaKat project, will devote to the study of structure-performance relationships of noble metal-based alloys towards the OER, by use of in situ and in operando coupled electrochemical and surface characterization techniques.
