I focus on electro-oxidation of alcohols to respective aldehydes, ketones and acids. Our modern electrochemical and analytical equipment enables us to perform a comprehensive process development. In the initial project phase, electrochemical real-time mass spectrometry (EC-RTMS) provides a powerful tool for the choice of the catalyst, as well as a potential dependent product distribution. Within the next phase, selected catalysts are examined further by performing long-term electrolysis and product analysis with quantitative analytical techniques such as high performance liquid chromatography, gas-chromatography mass spectrometry and ion-exchange chromatography. Powered by renewable energy, suchlike processes may open new environmentally friendly synthesis paths, avoiding harsh process conditions, such as high pressure and temperature.
