Together with our partners, we want to make a decisive contribution to the transformation of the energy sector. HI ERN is the centerpiece of the cooperation between Forschungszentrum Jülich, Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg (FAU) and Helmholtz-Zentrum Berlin (HZB), in which the three partners will combine their expertise in the field of renewable energy. The Helmholtz centers in Jülich and Berlin provide expertise in the areas of materials research for solar technologies and the generation of hydrogen from renewable energy. Another priority is systems technologies related to hydrogen. FAU contributes its internationally recognized materials and process research from the Cluster of Excellence Engineering of Advanced Materials (EAM) for the investigation and development of renewable energy systems.
HI ERN perfectly combines the strengths of its three partners in the field of renewable energy: FAU, Forschungszentrum Jülich and Helmholtz-Zentrum Berlin unite their outstanding experties in the areas of materials research for solar technologies and the generation of hydrogen from renewable energy.

With HI ERN, an institute was founded which benefits not only from the extensive infrastructure of Forschungszentrum Jülich, but also from the competence and the know-how of the existing institutes and working groups at Jülich. The strong partnership with FAU and Helmholtz-Zentrum Berlin perfectly complements the idea of HI ERN.
