Research Interests
Up to now, fuel cells and electrolysers are mostly found in laboratories. The electrochemically active part of these electrochemical conversion systems is the membrane-electrode-assembly (MEA), which is majorly still manufactured (literally, by hand). As the macro- and microscopic structures of the electrodes need to be in an optimum range in order to obtain a MEA with low electric, ionic and mass transport resistance (i.e., high power density), large-scale production with continuous process control is elaborate and still in its infancy.
My research therefore focuses on the development of a continuous production line of electrodes for fuel cells and electrolysers with physical and physico-chemical in-line analysis and feedback control.
