Research interest

To close the gap between fundamental research – as TF-RDE which suffers from mass-transport limitations (low current densities, no activity evaluation at relevant potential ranges possible) – and applied MEA research, intermediary testing methods need to be introduced, which can combine the advantages of both approaches. Half-cell measurements using gas diffusion electrodes (GDE) are considered to be the most suitable method allowing high mass transport catalyst screening in relevant potential ranges and realistic electrode structures.
My research is focussed on developing GDE test setups for catalyst activity as well as stability investigations and the evaluation of promising catalyst materials. Thereby the main focus is put on fuel cell reactions (esp. oxygen reduction reaction) with low Pt or non-precious metal catalysts.
