Research interest

Recognizing that climate change is a global problem, fuel cells have been identified as they could play a central role in the sustainable, energy-based society of the future. Due to the high energy density of the proton exchange membrane fuel cells (PEMFC), they are considered particularly promising. In an interdisciplinary research project we are investigating catalyst layers by using a novel gas diffusion electrode (GDE) setup. With this setup it is possible to evaluate catalyst layers in relevant potential ranges without mass-transport limitations.

The focus of my research will be on advanced catalyst support materials. Thereby the structure-performance-relationship will be investigated to gain deeper insights into mass transport phenomena in catalyst layers for low Pt metal PEMFC.
