Research Interest

Due to the special semiconductor properties of carbon nitrides, they exhibit unexpected catalytic activity for a variety of reactions, such as carbon dioxide activation. As support materials for catalytically active nanoparticles in heterogeneous catalysts, they can have a strong influence on the catalytic properties of the active phase. Carbon nitride, but also other nitrides, allow a variety of chemical and structural modifications, e.g., by surface functionalization, exfoliation, etc. Furthermore, the intrinsic catalytic activity of nitrides that can activate carbon dioxide has already been demonstrated. This enables the development of bifunctional heterogeneous catalysts with more than one active phase, in addition to synergistic effects in active nanoparticles.
