Research Interest

Liquid organic hydrogen carriers (LOHCs) offer great perspectives with regard to sustainable energy storage. However, the conversion of current carrier systems is commonly associated with a high energy demand. In order to achieve an efficient release of hydrogen −especially with respect to mobile applications− it is imperative to investigate novel structural motifs.
My research at HI ERN focuses on the investigation of oxygen-containing LOHCs. My task is to evaluate their suitability as hydrogen storage materials and to optimize the catalyst and process parameters to enable their selective and reversible conversion. For the clarification and prevention of potential degradation pathways, the (de)hydrogenation experiments are complemented by analytic methods such as GCMS, NMR and TG.
