Research Interest

Liquid Hydrogen Carriers (LOHCs) are an attractive strategy to store energy from renewable sources. An interesting option in this context are organic fuel cells (i.e. fuel cells performing in-situ dehydrogenation). Isopropanol can serve as a reusable hydrogen storage medium and can be fed directly into a fuel cell. In the fuel cell the isopropanol gets oxidized to acetone, which can be recycled. For isopropanol fuel cells a lot of research needs to be done on optimising the individual fuel cells parts and upscaling the size and energy density of the current fuel cells in order to create smaller and more powerful fuel cells for mobile or stationary use.
