Research Interests

In Germany rail traffic contributes significantly to pollutant emissions beside individual transportation, since more than 40% of its rail network are not yet electrified. One approach for emission reduction is the replacement of diesel-driven locomotives by hydrogen-powered vehicles, provided that the hydrogen is produced with renewable energies. For the hydrogen storage aboard the train exist different concepts. A promising option are Liquid Organic Hydrogen Carriers (LOHCs), which allow an easy and safe storage under ambient conditions. This approach is based on the chemical bonding of the hydrogen to a carrier material in an exothermic reaction and the release of it in an endothermal reaction.
My task is the simulation of a train system, that is powered by LOHC-bonded hydrogen. In this context, different configurations and operating modes shall be investigated.
