Research Interests

The Supported Catalytically Active Liquid Metal Solutions (SCALMS) concept, developed at the FAU, describes a porous solid support with an adsorbed catalytically active liquid metal/metal-alloy film or droplet layer within the pore structure under reaction conditions. It´s a promising new concept in heterogeneous catalysis for high temperature applications where other supported liquid-phase system, like e.g. Supported Catalyst with Ionic Liquid Layer (SCILL) or Supported Ionic Liquid Phase (SILP) catalysts, suffer from thermal decomposition. SCALMS offer unique electronic properties in combination with highly dynamic surfaces leading to increased activities and enhanced resistance to poisoning events, previously shown for alkene dehydrogenation (Taccardi et al., 2017). My work focuses on potential advantages and applications of SCALMS for hydrogen storage in small molecules.
