Research Interest

In order to limit global warming the energy system has to be radically changed towards a higher share of renewable energies. One of the key challenges is closing the gap between production of renewables and energy consumption, both of which are dependent on time and place. Liquid organic hydrogen carriers (LOHC) enable the storage of hydrogen from renewable sources by chemical bonding, its safe distribution and its release according to demand. The release takes place in a highly endothermic dehydrogenation reaction in presence of a heterogeneous catalyst. In my research I focus on the heat transfer to packed beds for LOHC dehydrogenation. The understanding and improvement of the transfer process plays a crucial role in the context of reactor design and optimisation.
