Prof. Gabriel da Silva as visiting professor at HI ERN
Erlangen, January 20, 2025 - The chemist Prof. Gabriel da Silva from the Federal University of Viçosa (Brazil) will research different electrochemical systems during his stay at HI ERN. The visiting professorship is the basis for a long-term research cooperation with Brazil in the field of renewable energies.
In the coming months, Prof. Gabriel da Silva will be researching various electrochemical systems at HI ERN. His focus will be on catalysts for the oxygen evolution reaction (OER), especially those used in alkaline electrolyzers. The goal is to identify stability and performance improvements that are relevant for real applications.
The chemist was already a visiting scientist at HI ERN in the year 2017 and was able to gain valuable experience in the field of catalyst stability. The Brazilian is looking forward to the renewed collaboration: "Returning to HI ERN is a unique opportunity to strengthen the collaboration with Dr. Serhiy Cherevko´s group, one of the leading teams in the field of catalyst degradation," says da Silva, specifying: "This visit will be crucial in establishing new partnerships and further consolidating of my research group at the Federal University of Viçosa, fostering long-term collaborations and advancing research in the field of sustainable energy."
Da Silva holds a PhD in chemistry from the University of São Paulo, Brazil. He is currently a professor at the Federal University of Viçosa, Brazil. There he coordinates research projects on electrocatalysis and mentors graduate and undergraduate students. His research area is electrocatalysis with a focus on the oxygen evolution reaction (OER), the mechanisms of catalyst degradation and dynamic stability under different operating conditions.
