Master Thesis: Investigating the catalytic alcohol dehydrogenation and the water influence in the reaction

Your Tasks:

  • Conceptualize a chemical process based on thermodynamic principles and fundamentals of chemical reaction engineering.
  • Conduct a literature search for suitable catalysts and experimental conditions.
  • Support the design and modification of a continuous lab plant and operate it.
  • Analyse the reaction mixtures by gas chromatography and other analytical methods.
  • Evaluate experimental results and integrate your findings into the research context.

Your Profile:

  • Ability to work independently and to show initiative.
  • Joy in experimental work in the lab and with analytical instruments.
  • Affinity for modelling and data analysis with software such as Aspen or Python is an advantage.

Our Offer:

In your master’s thesis, you will develop concepts for the on-board utilisation of LOHC-bound hydrogen, e.g. for marine propulsion systems and commercial vehicles. You will be able to create your own experimental design and draw on the rich experience in plant design at the institute. You will receive expert feedback for discussing and communicating your results. The master’s thesis thus contributes to the development of climate-friendly mobility for large and heavy vehicles of the future.
