Prof. Matthias Arenz is Director of the Department of Chemistry, Biochemistry and Pharmaceutical Sciences at University of Bern, Switzerland. He is an experienced researcher focusing on research and development of catalysts for proton exchange membrane (PEM) fuel cells and electrolyzers.

Education

He obtained his PhD (Dr. rer. nat.) from the University of Bonn, Germany in 2002, where he studied Physical Chemistry. His dissertation passed "with Distinction" and he also spent seven months as a visiting scientist at the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory in the USA in 2001. Prior to his PhD, he completed his Diploma in Physics at the University of Bonn from 1992-1999.

Employment History

Since February 1, 2016, he has been a Professor in Chemistry at the University of Bern. Before that, he was an Associate Professor in Chemistry at the University of Copenhagen from 2010-2016 and an Independent Emmy Noether Group Leader at the Technical University of Munich from 2006-2010. He also worked as a Research and Teaching Associate at the University of Ulm and TU-Munich from 2004-2006 and as a Postdoctoral Researcher at the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory from 2002-2004.
