He is also serving as the Principal Investigator of the ERC StG (2020). He completed projects such as the NATO SPS initiative on graphene-based electrocatalysts, the ERA-MIN 2 PGM recycling project, and several national projects. Besides others, he supervises two industrial PhD projects funded by Johnson Matthey and EKPO, focusing on the evaluation and testing of PEMFC and PEM electrolysis catalysts.

Dr. Hodnik earned his PhD from the University of Ljubljana in 2013, followed by a Marie-Curie IEF Scholarship at the Max-Planck Institute in Düsseldorf, Germany, under the mentorship of Prof. Mayrhofer. Elected as an associate professor at the University of Nova Gorica in 2019, he has a publication record of over 100 scientific papers, an h-index of 34, holds three patents and two patent applications, and has mentored over 10 PhD students. His primary research interests are Electrocatalysis, Electrochemical Energy Conversion, Corrosion, Stability, Recycling, IL-TEM, IL-SEM, in-situ TEM, Fuel Cells, Precious Metal Nanoparticles, and more.
