HI ERN young scientists at 71st Lindau Nobel Laureate Meeting
Dr. Daniel Escalera López and Konrad Ehelebe selected by committee to participate in prestigious event.
The highest award that scientists can receive is perhaps the Nobel Prize. Every year, the prestigious awards are presented in the disciplines of psychology & medicine, physics and chemistry. The prize-winning researchers are the best of the best. As a young scientist, it is therefore a great honor to be selected for the Nobel Laureate Conference in Lindau. The participants have the chance to get in contact with numerous Nobel Laureates. After one year of Corona conditional online meeting, the top-class meeting will now be held in presence again. Four young scientists from Forschungszentrum Jülich, two of them from HI ERN, have the pleasure of being invited to the 71st Lindau Nobel Laureate Meeting. Six exciting days await the young researchers, during which they will have the chance to exchange ideas with the best scientists.
Erlangen, 26. June 2021 - Founded in 1951, the Lindau Nobel Laureate Meeting soon became a magnet for the best young scientists in the world. Each year, the committee invites the most suitable candidates to participate based on a special application procedure. This year is no exception. After a year in which the meeting could only be held digitally, Dr. Daniel Escalera López and Konrad Ehelebe from HI ERN as well as Dr. Daniel Mann (ER-C 3 and IBI-6) and Dr. Apurv Dash (IEK-1) are pleased to announce their participation in the popular event. The four researchers from Jülich are facing exciting days at the end of June, during which they, together with around 600 other participants from 91 countries, will not only be able to learn about the research and careers of 35 Nobel Prize winners, but will also be able to present their own research. The main topic of this year's conference is chemistry. Participants from the Department of Chemistry, who were invited to the 70th Interdisciplinary Meeting, will also be able to attend this year.
Excellent Young Scientists from Jülich
The four selected participants from Forschungszentrum Jülich already show how diverse research in the field of chemistry can be. Dr. Apurv Dash is a post-doctoral researcher working on the interaction of electricity and ceramic materials in the priority program of SPP1959. He will move to Denmark technical University (DTU) as an Assistant Professor in August 2022 where he will focus on materials for the energy transition. Konrad Ehelebe's work focuses on the further development and understanding of electrocatalysts for fuel cells and water electrolysis. Dr. Escalera López is also conducting research for the energy of the future, focusing on the understanding of activity-stability relationships in water electrolysis electrocatalysts. Dr. Daniel Mann's research, in contrast, focuses on molecular mechanisms of autophagy using cryo-electron microscopy. Autophagy is a molecular biochemical process in the human body in which cellular components that are no longer needed or diseased are degraded and recycled.
Lindau Nobel Laureate Meeting
The Lindau Nobel Laureate Meeting has been organized by the Board of Trustees and the Lindau Nobel Laureate Meeting Foundation since 1951. The event promotes the exchange between young scientists and renowned scientists who have been awarded the Nobel Prize. During the six-day event, both Nobel laureates and young scientists have the opportunity to present their research. The goal of the meeting is to network, inspire and "exchange generations, cultures and disciplines."
