52nd IEEE Photovoltaic Specialists Conference

June 9 - 14, Seattle (USA) - The 52nd edition of the IEEE Photovoltaic Specialists Conference PVSC-52 was a milestone in its long history. More than 800 experienced photovoltaic experts, young professionals and students took the opportunity to discuss the latest developments on site.

The high-calibre conference program, organized and coordinated by Prof. Arno Smets (TU Delft) and Dr. Ian Marius Peters (HI ERN), covered the entire spectrum of PV knowledge and innovation: From basic research and engineering of materials, devices and systems to addressing policy and markets as well as the sometimes critical issues of social impact.

Highlights of the conference included a keynote address by Dr. Peter Fath, Managing Director of RCT Solutions, who provided key insights into building PV manufacturing capacity around the world. Dr. Fath spoke about his experience of setting up silicon solar cell and module manufacturing factories in various countries, and encouraged the scientific and political communities to do more.

Dr. Xixiang Xu (LONGi's Central R&D Institute) was awarded the 2024 IEEE William Cherry Award for significant contributions to the science and technology of PV energy conversion. He currently leads a research and development team of more than 500 technical staff working on various PV technologies. He has set 14 world records for silicon cell efficiency and now holds the efficiency records for HJT, HBC and PVSK/HJT tandem cells, which are 26.81%, 27.09% and 33.9% respectively.
