Prof. Christoph Brabec new member of the Bavarian Academy of Sciences and Humanities

The plenum of the Bavarian Academy of Sciences and Humanities (BAdW) has elected 14 scientists as new members. Among them is Prof. Dr. Christoph Brabec, Director at HI ERN and Head of the "High-Throughput Methods in Photovoltaics" department.

Membership in the Bavarian Academy of Sciences is one of the highest scientific honors in Bavaria. According to the statutes, all members must have contributed to a "significant expansion of knowledge" in their field through their research. Self-nomination is not possible.

With the election of the new members, the BAdW continues to expand its network at Bavarian universities and internationally. The Academy now has 212 full members, 103 corresponding members, 23 associate members and two honorary members.

Full members live or work in Bavaria. Materials scientist Brabec is the second member of the HI ERN Board of Directors to be elected to the BAdW: Founding Director of the HI ERN Prof. Peter Wasserscheid has also been a full member of the BAdW since 2019. The Bavarian Academy of Sciences, founded in 1759, is the largest and one of the strongest research academies in Germany. For more than 250 years it has been committed to its tasks as a community of scholars, a non-university research institution and a place of lively scientific dialogue with society and politics. Its work focuses on long-term projects that lay the foundation for further research and preserve our cultural heritage. Its ad hoc working groups are dedicated to current issues of high social relevance. The Academy includes the Leibniz Supercomputing Center, one of the largest supercomputing centers in Europe, the Bavarian Research Institute for Digital Transformation and the Walther Meißner Institute for Low Temperature Research. It supports outstanding young scientists in Bavaria through the Young Academy. The Academy is a member of the Union of Academies.
